Instructor: Josh Sommers

Explore bold graphic surface design in this hands-on, 4-week ceramics workshop. Students will learn to build striking layered patterns using hand-cut newsprint stencils and multiple engobe color layers. Through a sequential process of applying and removing stencils between layers of engobes, dramatic color-reveal designs emerge. Along the way, students will practice designing repeat patterns for ceramic forms, achieving crisp stencil edges, and planning layered surfaces. This class is best suited for potters who are already comfortable with centering, throwing, and trimming.
