Are you feeling ready to advance your small-metal fabrication and jewelry making skills? Explore complex design approaches and metal construction techniques with accomplished instructors! In addition to honing skills learned in the prerequisite class, the focus of this course is to offer additional techniques including cold connections, bezel setting, ring making, torch skills, and finishing techniques. Students will receive individualized feedback during hands on work time. Bring your ideas and creativity.

Prerequisite: Jewelry Fundamentals

You’ll love this class if you want to learn techniques for:

  • Safely operating an acetylene/air torch
  • Texturizing metal by hammering and stamping
  • Creating rivets
  • Basic ring making and sizing
  • Basic stone setting, such as bezel setting
  • Bending wire for earrings
  • Soldering joints (t-joint, butt joint, sweat joint)
  • Creating jump rings and bales
  • Cold connections
  • Finishing techniques, such as filing and sanding, polishing, patinas

In this class you’ll have the opportunity to use the following equipment and materials:

  • Selected metals
  • Acetylene/air torch
  • Variety of standard bench jeweler’s studio tools
  • Burnishers, polishing wheels
  • Hammers, mallets, mandrels
