This 6-week class is designed for students with a basic understanding of sewing who are ready to build confidence in reading patterns, constructing garments, and making simple alterations. Students will learn how to read, understand, and grade sewing patterns; practice garment construction techniques and assembly; and explore basic alterations and fit adjustments. You’ll leave with greater confidence in garment sewing and the skills needed to continue building your sewing practice independently.
CLASS MATERIALS Participants should come prepared with a beginner-level sewing pattern as well as 1–2 garments they wish to alter during the final weeks of class. The Artisan Center will provide muslin for creating test garments. Any yardage requirements and fabric content suggestions for students' specific patterns will be discussed on the first day of class. A selection of beginner sewing patterns will also be available for students who need assistance choosing one.
