If you already have foundational woodturning skills, this intermediate class is recommended to continue advancement in your skillset! During this class, students will learn the basics of segmented woodturning design and construction. Instructors will guide the creation of a specialized sled to use for cutting uniform segments and teach proper technique for assembly and shaping. Students will have the opportunity to complete a decorative bowl. Though we supply the equipment needed, students are permitted to bring and use their personal woodturning tools for class.
Bring your ideas and creativity, an impact-resistant face shield (shared classroom shields are also available for use), and closed-toe shoes.
Prerequisite: Woodturning Fundamentals

You’ll love this class if you want to learn techniques for:
- Designing, determining dimensions, and cutting of segments
- Learning various methods of cutting and truing up of segments using a bandsaw and sled for cutting precision angles
- Proper gluing technique for assembling segments and rings
- Stacking rings to create a bowl blank rough form
- Shaping a bowl blank to completion on the lathe
In this class you’ll have the opportunity to use the following equipment and materials:
- Wood for a bowl project
- Bandsaw and sled
- Wood glue, clamps
- Standard turning tools such as gouges, scrapers, and more
- Hand, belt, and disk sanders
