This course is designed to advance and improve the report writing skills of law enforcement officers and investigators. This course focuses on investigative information, elements of the crime, clear and concise writings. This class starts with a review of the report writing basics then covers more advanced skills such as use of force reports and felony arrests. The intention is to write reports correctly to minimize time spent at court as well as avoid civil litigation. Students will receive organization of information and the tools needed to edit their reports for clarity, validity, and reliability. Attendees should possess the basic investigative skills necessary to conduct or evaluate a complete investigation. Students will review the necessary components of a proper investigative report that are accurate and court defensible.
