Blue Card Certification

The Blue Card Command Certification Program teaches Incident Commanders and other fire officers how to standardize incident operations.

The first phase of training is a 50-hour online training course through Blue Card. The second phase of training is the Hands-On Evaluation and Certification 3-day course which is offered through NWTC using a specially certified Blue Card trainer.

Upon completion of the online and hands on portion, students become a fully certified Local - Type 4 and 5 Incident Commander. This evaluation consists of running 15-20 fire simulations a day with brief incident reviews conducted between each simulation. This session tests their ability to perform the responsibilities of an:

• Initial On-Scene Officer
• Incident Commander
• Incident Management Team (IMT) Member
• Division/Group Supervisor
• Safety Officer
• Continue, Transfer & Terminate Command
