As an officer engaged in waterborne patrol, you recognize that the Academy didn’t prepare you for the job you chose. Your job is different now than it was on the street. If you want to excel, you’ll have to take what you learned street side and apply it in a radically different environment on the water. In addition to your typical law enforcement duties, your daily patrols now include underway operations and search and rescue response. As a result, you’ll have to adopt new operational tactics and learn to use very different equipment. In this class, you’ll learn the essentials of waterborne patrol.

Classroom and underway topics will include:

  • Underway communication and team coordination
  • Basic close quarter maneuvering
  • Marlinspike seamanship and line handling
  • Boat stop approach considerations and execution
  • Close quarter maneuvering, mechanics, assessment, and on deck action
  • Open water acceleration, advance and transfer, tactical diameter, deceleration and stopping
  • Station keeping for mission execution
  • Tactical approach considerations for waterborne patrol

Attendees are required to bring their agency boat
