This 24-hour course Field Training Officer (FTO) course provides experienced law enforcement or corrections officers with contemporary training, education, and best practices to prepare them to become field trainers. FTO candidates will be provided with classroom and hands-on instruction to help them become successful coaches and teachers. Course subject matter includes coaching and learning styles, adult learning theory, documenting and assessing performance, using camera footage to improve performance, debriefing performance, strategies to improve deficient performance, remediation, training liability, creating positive training environments, and more.

Learning Objectives:

• Evaluate field training scenarios • Create field training narratives or reports • Explain field training narratives • Demonstrate debriefing field performance consistent with department or industry standards • Develop strategies to encourage acceptable performance and correct deficient performance
