This class is designed to help new and veteran officers, criminal justice students, and family members understand the complex profession of a career in law enforcement and will help them gain a better understanding of the pitfalls that are not always taught in most police recruit academies. Topics to be covered include: post-traumatic stress disorder, shift work, harassment from other officers, ethics, traumatic crime scenes, personal relationships, substance abuse, field training, coping mechanisms for stressors, finances, divorce, on-duty police deaths, the debriefing process, suicide, and many more.

This class is also built to help families and loved ones gain insight into “My Cop” and helps them see what an officer is going through before it happens. This is a class that is a roller coaster of emotions as we address topics that are very serious in nature. We will discuss some of the negative aspects of a career in law enforcement, but also celebrate what a truly wonderful profession it is. We encourage family and friends to attend this training with officers. Each Registered Officer/Criminal Justice student is allowed to bring two adult family members or two close friends to attend the training with them, free of charge. No children are allowed due to the sensitive topics covered in the course.
