This hands-on course is designed to prepare dental hygienists for the safe administration of nitrous oxide inhalation sedation for clinical practice according to Chapter DE 11.03 of Wisconsin State Practice Act.
The course covers the history, legal aspects, pharmacokinetics, safety and efficacy with administration and patient monitoring.
The course includes a lab portion where the students will participate in receiving and administering nitrous oxide.
Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate of completion for 12 hours of continuing dental education. NWTC will be responsible for submitting the Nitrous Oxide Certificate of Completion form DIRECTLY to the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services for state licensure.
This is a blended course with 4 hours online material using Canvas, 4 hours of lecture content, and 4 hours for the in-person lab portion. **Required book will need to be purchased by each participant.

• Understand the properties of nitrous oxide
• Recognize the indications and contraindications of nitrous oxide use
• Demonstrate safe nitrous oxide administration
