Tactical Leadership & Decision Making for the Patrol Supervisor

This course was designed to give front line leaders of police officers the knowledge and skills to lead during the initial phases of a crisis. Crisis situations tend to run on their own momentum and gradually build toward disorder and chaos unless organized, timely, and thoughtful interventions begin to take place. This is where leadership on the front line is critical. Leadership is the most important thing on the road.

This class will give front line leaders the confidence and ability to begin gaining control of a crisis and set subordinate officers up for success. Students will learn the difference between crisis and conflict. We will break down the 5 characteristics of a crisis and how they affect decisions that need to be made by leadership. Students will be armed with the knowledge and critical thinking skills needed to navigate an unfolding crisis, and how to tactically deploy resources while specialized teams (SWAT, EOD, Dive) are being paged out.

Persons attending this course are asked to come with an open mind and willingness to participate. Students will be challenged as leaders with hard decisions based on limited information. They will be shown how to navigate the fog and friction of a decision rapidly under stress. Often when a decision needs to be made there is no “good” decision. As leaders we most often must choose between bad or worse. At the end of this class students will be confident in their decision-making ability as well as their skills to tactically deploy patrol resources to contain a crisis before it gets wildly out of control. While this class is geared toward front line leadership, any law enforcement officer will gain valuable decision making skills from attending this course.
