The goal of the competition is for students to demonstrate their coping and trim fitting skills by installing base and crown molding. We will provide all needed supplies and tools. The competing students will be given 3 hours to complete the task. Coping and Trim fitting • NWTC supplies two 24” x 24” trim boxes with 3.5” x 3.5” blocks for inside corners. Enough 2 ¼” Base trim along with 3 ½” Crown moulding to complete the challenge. • The corner blocks will not be exactly 90 degrees • First box challenge will be to install 2 ¼” Base trim around the inside of the box. • Second bow challenge will be to install 3 ½” Crown moulding around the inside of the box. • Each joint will be scored by accuracy of the fit for a total of 12 joints scored 0-4 Tools provided • 10” Mitre Saw • Brad Nailer • Coping Saw • Rasp Scoring Rubric • Proper use of equipment for it’s intended purpose and done safely. Scored No-0, Yes-3 • Ability to complete task with materials provided. Scored No-0, Yes-3 • Properly fit joints for each corner for each moulding profile.
