COLLEGE OF BUSINESS Student capacity: Minimum 4, Maximum 12
The goal of the “Big Idea” is to develop a “Start Up” Business and present the idea/opportunity to a group of investors to secure funding for the project (as with Shark Tank). Students may decide to enhance the benefits of an existing product/service or develop a “new to the world” idea – the participants must convince the “Investors” why the product/service is a worthy investment and/or why the product/service is more appealing to customers that anything that is currently available including the other contestants.
Phase One - Research and Development: Participants will create a Business Plan for the product/service - a template/ “pitch deck” will be provided to guide students through the process. A mentor (the instructor) will assist with the Business Plan development.
Phase Two - The Presentation: Students will present the proposal to a panel of investors using a power point, posters, video, handouts, demonstration etc. Whatever it takes for students to convince the Investors that their respective idea is better than the competitor’s products. After all the presentations are completed, the Investors will rate the presentations and offer comments prior to declaring the “winning” idea.
